 PIF Castelfidardo - September 11th to 15th 2024Now in its 49th edition, PIF – International Accordion Award – is an international event imbued with a great spirit of innovation. This event has built its success gradually over time. Let’s review some of its milestones. The beginnings of the International Accordionist Exhibition in 1963, fifty-eight years ago, the introduction of foreign participants in 1975 and the 1st National Accordionist Championship in 1979, which became World Championship in 1981. Known as the International Accordion Festival from 1989 to 2013, it was called P.I.F. for the first time in 2014, at the edition with Roberto Lucanero as artistic director. PIF says: "This brief survey makes us proud of the work done and projects us into the future with great enthusiasm. Edition after edition, we are becoming increasingly aware that a solid experience and the love for music and the accordion are fundamental ingredients required to keep evolving and growing in the name of top quality."  Folk Arts Oxford aims to promote folk and traditional dance, music and song in the Oxfordshire region. In particular they are interested in improving access for those who might face barriers to participation in the arts.Through our funded project work: children in Headington have learned about local lad William Kimber, and the musical legacy he has left; a new band called Iris has been formed, who accompany all their songs with Makaton signing; children from mainstream and special schools in Oxfordshire have the chance to create music together, and perform on the main stage at Folk Weekend: Oxford. Alongside their own projects and events, FAO works collaboratively with other local organisations, forging links and creating opportunities for folk artists to work in education and community projects, as well as showcase their talent in local events. http://folk-arts-oxford.co.uk |

| 35th edition of the World Accordion Fair from August 30th to September 1st, 2024 The Carrefour mondial de l’accordéon was established more than 35 years ago in Montmagny, a town in Quebec’s Chaudière-Appalaches region. The festival has grown into a major international event. Each year, it features some 75 musicians from all around the world. Selected artists give street performances, filling the town with the lively and diverse sounds of the accordion. Over the span of three days, festival-goers can travel through time to discover (or rediscover) well-known musicians. World music, Quebec traditional, musette, classical, jazz… there’s something for everyone! Activities are held place in concert halls as well as at various outdoor venues. Exhibitions, musical entertainment at restaurants, workshops and a traditional dance party are all included in the festival program. It features more than 30 concerts that give visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in local Montmagny culture.  Harmonica Training unterrichten wird. Nach dem Erfolg seines ersten Kurses im Jahr 2023 wurde außerdem Chris Kramer wieder eingeladen, den Wochenend-Workshop für Anfänger am Freitag und Samstag im Jahr 2024 zu leiten.Immer auf der Suche nach neuen Impulsen wurden zwei großartige neue Lehrer verpflichtet, die 2024 zum ersten Mal unterrichten werden. Long Ti Tian kam 2011 aus China, um am Hohner-Konservatorium chromatische Mundharmonika zu studieren, bevor er an der Jazz- und Rockschule in Freiburg seinen BA in Performance Studies absolvierte. Er tritt derzeit mit der Gruppe vom renommierten brasilianischen Jazz-Gitarristen Fabio Gouvea auf, und wird bei der HMW 2024 einen leicht zugänglichen und gut konzipierten Kurs für Jazz-Chromonika unterrichten. Und last but not least auf Wunsch vieler Studenten, für einen Workshop zum Thema Rack Harp für Gitarristen den renommierten britischen Blueskünstler Eddie Martin gewinnen können. Eddie ist ein wahrer Meister auf beiden Instrumenten und ein großartiger Pädagoge, der sowohl seine Leidenschaft für die Musik wie auch die zum Spielen erforderlichen Fähigkeiten vermitteln kann. Außerdem gibt es drei kurze Sonderworkshops während den Mittagspausen am Donnerstag, Freitag und Samstag: Mattias Bogefors wird eine praktische Einleitung in seine Methode geben, die Mundharmonika therapeutisch einzusetzen; George Reijnders und Arie-Jan Folkerts (Marble Amps) werden wieder ihren Workshop zum Thema elektrisch verstärkte Harp präsentieren; und Chris Kramer stellt eine tolle neue Stimmung vor, um ganz einfach und intuitiv in Molltonarten spielen zu können. | Playing the accordion is something you can learn quickly. The basics are simple and you can play a nice tune after a few months. lesson times / Classes are every 2 weeks on Wednesday evenings. The school year consists of two blocks of lessons (autumn and spring). Each block has 6 or 7 lesson evenings and 1 play-together evening. levels / There are several groups for different lesson levels. There are groups for beginners and advanced students, but there are no exams or transition to a “next” group. | AFTER 45 YEARS ON THE ROAD, OYSTERBAND HAVE DECIDED TO TAKE THE TOUR BUS OUT FOR ITS LAST RIDE “We’re hanging up our travelling shoes, but we’re taking a year or so to say goodbye to our lovely live audience.And we mean to enjoy every minute!” Emerging in the early 80s from their folk club and ceilidh band days, Oysterband infused both the tradition and their own songs with a passion and energy that was electrifying for the time. Polkas, politics and a heaving dance floor seemed just right for Thatcher’s Britain. Signing to new roots label Cooking Vinyl, headlining English Roots Against Apartheid, playing Glastonbury and the Fleadh several times each, touring with The Pogues in Europe and Billy Bragg in North America, hosting the Big Session Festival….. all gained them a large and loyal international following. Their collaboration with June Tabor in 1990 produced the cult-classic album Freedom & Rain, and it was renewed 21 years later for Ragged Kingdom, one of the best-selling folk-rock albums of the new millennium. Winners of several BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, including Best Band twice, Oysterband’s song-writing has never stood still, and classics such as The Oxford Girl, When I’m Up (I Can’t Get Down), Everywhere I Go and Put Out The Lights have entered the folk canon. “It’s been a long, tough, joyful journey, but the time has come. They write their own music which is influenced by English and European traditional dance music. All band members compose; many of their songs have become “standards” in the modern English/European folk repertoire and are played by people all over the world. Bands all over Europe who experiment with folk music often mention Blowzabella as an important source of inspiration. Therefore, the idea quickly grew within the band to share their expertise and especially approach with the public. With success because every year the band organizes several Blowzabella weekends in the UK and in Europe. These festivals are always a creative melting pot of masterclasses, initiations as balls and concerts. The goal of this festival is that everyone can participate, beginners as well as advanced musicians as people who have never danced before. All in a relaxed and warm atmosphere! All Blowzabella members are experienced in teaching and they also invite various guest teachers. For this first edition in Dranouter the teachers are: Blowzabella (UK) + Benoit Micaud (F/ Hurdy-gurdy) + La Confrérie des Muchards de Saint-Druon. | Il Festival Tarantella Power è un festival che celebra la danza e la musica tradizionale. Offre una serie di attività tra cui corsi, laboratori, presentazioni, seminari, mostre, animazioni, concerti e feste da ballo. Nato nel 1999 a Caulonia (RC), è diventato in breve tempo uno dei principali eventi culturali italiani, stringendo importanti collaborazioni con lo I.A.L.S. di Roma, il Conservatorio di Padova, l'Università di Palermo e la "Bicocca" di Milano. Il percorso del festival lo ha visto spostarsi da Badolato (CZ) a Tiriolo (CZ), e infine a Monasterace sulla costa ionica fino al 2023. 20 anni di Tarantella Power Il festival di quest'anno a Cetraro segna oltre 20 anni di promozione della musica etnica e delle tradizioni calabresi. | The band consists of the three renowned musicians Siobhán Kennedy from Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland, Nick Wiseman-Ellis from Norwich, England, and Jens Kommnick from Bremerhaven, Germany. The group was founded 2003 by Siobhán, Jens and Anglika Berns (vocals, bodhrán, piano, whistle) and started to perform in this line up 2016. The colourful mixture of emotional harmony singing together with fine arrangements of lively dance music and lyrical melodies has become their trademark. The wide range of instruments they play includes flute, fiddle, whistles, concertina, guitar, bouzouki, cello and piano. This coupled with their warm, open and humorous stage presentation has resulted in Iontach being one of the most sought after Irish traditional bands in the German scene. | The 17th International Instrumental Folk Music Festival GRIEŽYNĖ 2024 September 4-8, 2024 International instrumental folk music festival „Griežynė“ is the oldest such genre event in the Eastern Baltic region. It was 1992 when the idea of two enthusiasts of instrumental folk music Algirdas Klova ir Arūnas Lunys came true and takes place every two years in Vilnius. The name of the festival was chosen purposefully. Griežynė is a dialect word for a fiddle, one of the main folk instruments in Lithuania and other countries. Vilnius gathers a great number of fiddlers from different sides of the world. The festival seeks to familiarise people with folk music performers, folk instruments, and traditional music of different countries. It purposes to demonstrate to the festival guests the authentic tradition of Lithuanian folk music performance. In 14 years the festival has already hosted musicians from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Finland, England, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Peru, Ireland, Wales, USA, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Japan, Iran, Turkey, China and many other parts of the world. „Griežynė“ is more than concerts. | Aleksandar Nikolic / Bandoneon & Artistic Director Born in 1973. Founder of Beltango quinteto, first authentic tango orchestra from Balkan. He attended Music School "Vuckovic" in Belgrade and later he continued his education at "Musical Academy" in Bratislava - Slovakia, where he has graduated in classical accordion department in 1997. IVANA NIKOLIC / PIANO & VOCAL She graduated in 1998 at the FMU in Belgrade - piano department, in the class of prof. Tijane Humo, and in 2001 she also graduated from the department of solo singing, in the class of prof. Aleksandr Ivanovic. ANTONIJA BARNA / VIOLIN Antonija Barna, a gifted violinist was born on February 17, 1990, in Novi Sad, Serbia. Her musical journey began at a young age, as I attended Primary Music School, such as High School “Isidor Bajić” in Novi Sad. She furthered education by completing both bachelor's and master's degrees at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia. BOGDAN PEJIC / GUITAR Bogdan Pejic is a guitar player who enjoys exploring different music genres. His music expression, thus, cannot be categorized under one particular style. He simply tries to transfer music on his own way. His further education continues on the University of Arts, Faculty of Music in Belgrade on department for classical guitar in the class of professor Srdjan Tosic, where he graduates in 2007. PETAR HOLIK / DOUBLE BASS Petar Holik was born in 1985. He studied at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad and received a master's degree at Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. 15 years ago, Petar performed his first concerts with Beltango, becoming the first lineup a few years later. Since then he played more than 500 concerts, milongas, and shows with Beltango Quinteto all over Europe. | September 4-8, 2024 GRIEŽYNĖ Wolfram Märzendorfer and Iveta's Mockutė musical friendship goes back a decade, even though they live in different countries - Austria and Lithuania. Wolfram has been playing the diatonic armonica since the age of four. He participated in the band “Alondra”, founded in 1979, which researched history of Sephardic music. In 2000 he founded the recognized Graz armonica research and documentation centre. Iveta is originally from Šiauliai (Lithuania), where she graduated with honours in violin at the Children's Music School. The core of the ensemble has not changed until now. From the beginning it's led by a violinist and ethnomusicologist, ass. prof., dr. at Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre Gaila Kirdienė. Gintautas Beržinskas and Elena Mantvilė Kirdaitė play fiddles as well, Albinas Batavičius and Arvydas Kirda play bandonions, Rasa Gelčienė plays a drum. The time after the first release was spent on many small tours in Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Finland and France as well as more than 100 concerts in the USA and Canada. Gangspil began as a trio and became a duo, which has given the opportunity to dig deeper into the unison playing that is the core of Gangspil's music. It has also given the opportunity to play with different musicians, each of whom contributes an extra dimension. Remco Sietsema and Janos Koolen switch between lyrical and rhythmic and between different styles; from a polska to funk and from bluegrass to a waltz. In addition to the instrumental songs on the album, Sietsema also sings in Groningen, his native language. Recorded live and with plenty of room for improvisation, you can hear and feel the energy and concentration of two musicians at the cutting edge in every silence and solo. With Lagom, Sietsema and Koolen seek out the boundaries within the domain of their instruments and immediately push them further.
