 Dates for the travelling exhibition 'Craftsmen of Sound' are:Camerano (San Francesco), 28 September to 12 October Castelfidardo (Auditorium San Francesco), 31 October to 16th November Loreto (Bastione Sangallo), 30 November to 11th December Recanati (Palazzo Comunale), 2014 date not yet determined Klingenthal, Germany (Museo Comunale), May 2014 150 years ago the first of mass production of accordions was initiated in Castelfidardo by Paolo Soprani. Impossible to think at that time, that this "spark" would have resulted in a history of ingenuity, resourcefulness, a passion that led to the emergence of a highly specialized manufacturing district in this territory. The City of Castelfidardo, through the Museum Castelfidardo has decided to organise a traveling exhibition that illustrates, through images, the historical journey / production of this musical instrument. The project also includes a publication and a series of conferences. Each show will be "personalized" with respect to the host city and the role which it played in the district. The events are organised by Beniamino Bugiolacchi (Director of the Museum Castelfidardo), Fabio Buschi (photographer) and Roberto Carlorosi (graphics) with support from local government and the cities where the exhibitions will be held. The prestigious photographic book "Craftsmen of Sound" published by Tecnostampa and processed by the curators of the exhibition will also be promoted. Da quella “scintilla” sarebbe scaturita una storia fatta di ingegno, intraprendenza, passione che ha portato alla nascita di un distretto produttivo fortemente specializzato e radicato in questo territorio. Non possiamo non ricordare come buona parte della ricchezza delle nostre zone derivi da questa affascinante storia; in quella vicenda si sono sviluppate le competenze di tanti lavoratori e imprenditori che poi, all’arrivo della crisi degli strumenti musicali acustici, si sono riconvertiti nei settori dell’elettronica, del legno, della cartotecnica, della plastica e della meccanica di precisione. Per questo motivo il Comune di Castelfidardo, attraverso il Museo della Fisarmonica (Musuem Castelfidardo) ha deciso di collaborare con la Confartigianato nell’organizzazione di una mostra itinerante che illustrasse, attraverso le immagini, il cammino storico/produttivo di questo strumento musicale. Del progetto fanno parte anche una pubblicazione ed una serie di convegni che mirano proprio a fare delle considerazioni su una vicenda che, a nostro avviso, merita di essere approfondita in particolare in questo difficilissimo frangente di recessione economica. Il nostro auspicio è quello di lanciare un messaggio positivo, che porti a comprendere come le competenze delle persone non debbano andar disperse, come l’ingegno si possa rinnovare, come la passione e l’attaccamento alla propria terra siano le fondamenta su cui ricostruire un progetto di espansione e di ricchezza dopo un momento difficile. L’incarico della realizzazione della mostra è stato affidato di concerto con la Confartigianato provinciale e l’Amministrazione Comunale di Castelfidardo a Beniamino Bugiolacchi (direttore del Museo della Fisarmonica), Fabio Buschi (fotografo) e Roberto Carlorosi (grafico). L’iniziativa gode anche di un contributo della Confartigianato Provinciale, della Camera di Commercio di Ancona, della banca BCC di Filottrano e del patrocinio dei comuni di Castelfidardo, Numana, Osimo, Camerano, Loreto e del consorzio CAM (Polo Tecnologico). La mostra proporrà una serie di pannelli fotografici, dei video inediti ed un’esposizione di fisarmoniche d’epoca che coinvolgeranno i visitatori. Ogni mostra sarà “personalizzata” rispetto alla città ospitante ed al ruolo da essa svolto nell’ambito del distretto. In occasione delle varie inaugurazioni ed incontri, che verranno curate da Confartigianato Imprese Ancona, verrà presentato il prestigioso libro fotografico “ARTIGIANI DEL SUONO” edito da Tecnostampa ed elaborato dai curatori della mostra. The 25th Carrefour Mondial de l'Accordéon took place from August 29th to September 2nd in Montmagny, Quebec. The sun shone, large numbers attended, and the event was like a reunion of accordion friends from many places. The festival was visited by spectators from as far away as Estonia! There was a festive atmosphere, public places were crowded, and on some occasions it was necessary to add extra seating for indoor concerts. Two concerts were held, for the first time, at the Accordion Museum. The audiences responded enthusiastically to the quality and the great variety of music on offer. Artistes included international stars such as Jérôme Richard (France), Pietro Adragna (Italy), the highly accomplished Paris-Moscou Duo (France/Russia), concertina virtuoso Alistair Anderson (England), Gary Blair (Scotland), Hector Del Curto Trio (Argentina), Michèle Boudet and Diego Serrano (France), Vladimir Dennissenkov (Russia), diatonic accordion wizard Roberto Lucanero (Italy) and the Irish traditional music trio John Whelan, Haley Richardson and Paddy Keenan (Ireland/USA). Canadian guests were well represented by Accordeons, Brabec et Rumpel, Marie-Jeanne Brousseau and Jérémie Roy, Clément Bérubé, Alexandre B. Caron, Club Carrefour, Keven Desrosiers, and many more.  On the 12th, 13th and 14th September. an interesting and innovative seminar titled: "The Accordion of the 19th Century, a Repertoire to be Rediscovered" was held in Castelfidardo, to acclaim.The workshop , organized by the New CDMI (Music Learning Center Italian) was created by its President Alessandro Mugnoz, who provided lectures and hearings, as well as a conference and concert conducted by Maestro Corrado Rojac (Professor at the Conservatory " Tartini" ) and Laura dott.sa Francenella and Alexander Mugnoz, (lecturer at the Institute of Musical Studies " Pergolesi" in Ancona). The main purpose of this initiative was the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Italian accordion production and to to present the characteristics of some historical instruments (19th century), and at the same time raise awareness of the important lecture (methods) and music designed for the 19th century instrument. It was then discovered an amazing repertoire - partially revived in modern revisions (edited by the teachers of the workshop) - which in fact is the origin and "basis" of the musical literature for accordion. A historical review, forgotten for 150 years and more, which should enrich the literature available to students and scholars for accordions, for instruments "bitonici" contemporaries (the so-called diatonic accordions) the real cultural roots, while for the instruments "unitonici" represents the origins of a didactic literature, but also "concert"... Each day of the seminar has had one of his lectures, with live performances, even on ancient instruments related to the topic of the conference. Thursday, September 12 had a lecture with concert by Maestro Corrado Rojac (picture below) which focused on the presentation of the book: "1839 's Accordion Joseph Greggiati " (editions ArsSpoletium ) - with fine performances of Rojac, on the copy of 'harmonic bellows of Greggiati (1793-1866), created by the skilful craftsman Adriano Clementi. Friday, 13 September it was the turn of the conference, held by Alessandro Mugnoz (picture left), Antonio Lopez Almagro ( 1838-1904 ), his music for harmonium and the presentation of his "Complete Method de Acordeon" (1876), republished and revised by Maestro Mugnoz (New editions CDMI) - with practical demonstrations of bitonici and unitonici instruments. Saturday, September 14 was a conference on: "Restoration of the 19th Century Accordions" was held. Technical-phonic and an example of a restored harmoniflute period (second half of XIX century)", Edited by Laura Francenella - with demonstration on the historic instruments " Thiboville - & C. Lamy , Paris ", restored by the same Francenella and expert craftsman Nazarene Carini, for the first time, after about a century and a half, are echoing songs composed expressly for harmoniflute hand one by Luigi Truzzi (1799-1864) and Philip Screws (XIX century), performed by Maestro Mugnoz. At the end there was a small, but significant coming together with some of the students participating in the seminar, who have performed music by 19th and early 20th century composers. In conclusion it was followed by the presentation of certificates to all participants, with deserved applause and satisfaction of all participants and attendees. |

| from 23. 10. 2013 - 7.11.2013 Over the last few years a new sound has been gaining momentum here in Europe. More and more bands have been visiting these shores bringing a new sound from over the atlantic ocean. This music is using familiar instruments like guitars, accordions and fiddles played in a way that is fresh and vibrant. Its home is in swamps and prairies of Southwest Louisiana but bands from over the seas are finding a warm welcome in clubs and festivals 3000 miles away from their roots. The music isn’t new of course, its traditions are centuries old but to many people here in Europe it comes like a breath of fresh air. With its driving beat, hearfelt emotions, and trance like melodies it strikes a chord with 21st century ears. The festival will tour throughout Germany to bring authentic music from Louisiana to the fans and friends of Cajun, Blues and Zydeco. The festival honors theses particular genres from Louisiana with artists from USA and Europe. This year we'll present from Louisiana the 'Lynn August Zydeco Band', 'Brother Dege' (from the soundtrack of 'Django unchained') and the 'Cajun Roosters'.  Sabato 14 e Domenica 15 Settembre 2013For the first time this year, Castefidardo dedicated all its attention to the diatonic accordion and the first international diatonic accordion competition, organized by the Municipality of Castelfidardo in collaboration with the AMISAD (Association of Italian Music Instruments Reed, Diatonic), the Pro Loco of Castelfidardo was held on the 14th and 15th of September 2013. Many many competitors for both organetto and diatonic accordion with a fabulous winner – the young and always smiling Marco Pomanti has won the prestigious award “Città di Castelfidardo” A very high artistic level – was evidenced the President of the Pro Loco Aldo Belmonti - as one could see by the assessments of points given the prestigious jury chaired by the concertist of Belarus Svetlana Malets Skorobogataia, Roberto Lucanero, Giuliano Cameli, Gianni and Vittorio Finoia Bernardini. The organetto especially made in tribute of the 150th anniversary was presented to the teacher of the winner (Danilo di Paolonicola) mentioning of the competitor who came from far away (Joseph Benevento from Barcelona/Spain) and the oldest one (Elio Silences, 78 years old) while from the local region Marche the youngest Elijah Salvucci, born in Macerata 2007 – so only 6 years young. | The 7th World Harmonica Festival takes place in Trossingen, Germany, from October 30th to November 3rd. Thousands of players from around the world will gather together in the ‘Harmonica Mecca’, where over one billion harmonicas have been produced since the mid–19th Century and where Hohner, the world-market leader has its headquarters. The World Harmonica Festival has played an important cultural role in the worldwide harmonica scene in the last 24 years, and a record number of international visitors, competitors and artists is expected this year. The best players from every continent will compete in the ‘Harmonica World Championships’ in various genres and age groups.  The 5th annual The Big Squeeze festival took place on Sunday September 29th in Costa Mesa, CA. The festival featured a variety of accordion based bands and soloists performing everything from Jazz and Blues, Rhythm and Funk, to Cajun and Tex- Mex, to Latin and Tango.Featured bands included Grammy nominated Lisa Haley & the Zydekats, featuring accordionist Gee Rabe, who also performed with Porterhouse Bob and Down to the Bone, an eight piece New Orleans influenced funk and rhythm and blues group. In addition to playing, Rabe also offered a free lesson workshop for amateur diatonic button and piano accordion players. Rabe was joined by Otono Lujan, also a teacher and accordionist for the band Conjunto Los Pochos. Another featured band, Los Fabulocos, performed music from their Mexican-American heritage, plus Zydeco, Conjunto, and Cumbia rhythms. Highly accomplished and versatile Cory Pesaturo, recent winner of several competitions performed as soloist. Other soloists included Peter Robuffo, Lou Fanucchi, Gordon Kohl, and Jim Gilman. The popular festival also featured free zydeco dance lessons, an Accordion Road Show with Jeffrey Iacono, Borsini Accordions, Accordion Apocalypse accordion and accessory sales as well as free accordion repair and rebuild tips by Skyler Fell. |

 Klein, aber fein – die Mundharmonika ist ein Instrument, das über ein immenses Klang- und Ausdrucksspektrum verfügt. Dieser Kurs will Einsteigern einen ersten Zugang in die Klangwelt der Mundharmonika bieten, die in zahlreichen Folklorerichtungen und auch als „Blues Harp“ im amerikanischen Blues beheimatet ist. Sie lernen die richtige Mundstellung und wie man den elementaren Vorgang des Ein- und Ausatmens aufs Instrument überträgt. Auch als Anfänger und ohne Notenkenntnisse bringen Sie schnell die kleinen Metallzungen zum Schwingen und spielen bald ihre ersten Melodien. Weiterführende Spieltechniken wie Tremolo, Wah-Wah und Vibrato verdeutlichen, wie Sie im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes „im Handumdrehen“ den Klang dieses handlichen Instrumentes verfeinern können: Zugimitationen sowie viele kleine Riffs und Atemübungen werden für Spaß sorgen und die Teilnehmer in Erstaunen über die eigene Leistung versetzen. Auch Improvisationstechniken in Folk und Blues werden behandelt. Die individuelle Betreuung durch den erfahrenen Kursleiter, der die Gruppe auch auf der Gitarre begleiten wird, sorgt dafür, dass jeder nach seinen Möglichkeiten in den Klangreichtum dieses „Hosentaschen-Instrumentes“ vordringt.Voraussetzungen: keine. Bitte Blues Harp in C-Dur mitbringen. KEINE ECHO, „UNSERE LIEBLINGE“ ODER CHROMATISCHE MUNDHARMONIKA!!! Es besteht auch die Möglichkeit, beim Kursleiter eine professionelle Mundharmonika von für 18,-Euro zu erwerben. Im frühen Kindesalter entdeckte er schon seine Leidenschaft für die Musik, lernte die Songs von Elvis und Johnny Cash lieben und gründete einige Jahre später mit 12 seine erste Band. Jimmie Reed und Harp-Ikone Paul Butterfield prägten sein Harmonikaspiel. Dale King zählt schon lange zu den versiertesten Harp-Virtuosen in Deutschland und arbeitete mit vielen nationalen und internationalen Künstlern zusammen (u. a. Wir wollen sie in unserem Kurs für alle Instrumente öffnen und ein kleines "orquesta tipica"-Repertoire erarbeiten. Anhand von einfach strukturierten Stücken werden wir herausfinden, was den Tango eigentlich zum Tango macht und welche Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten uns die Melodien, Harmonien und Rhythmen bieten. Nachdem wir uns mit den Basics des Tango beschäftigt haben, können wir uns an vielschichtigere Kompositionen heranwagen. Besondere Beachtung finden die Möglichkeiten zur Bereicherung und Variation der Originalmelodie sowie der Wechsel zwischen dem begleitenden Spiel für alle Instrumente und einzelnen Soli.  Früher traf man sich zunächst zweimal jährlich, im Frühjahr und im Herbst zum Süddeutschen Konzertina-Treffen in Wartaweil.Allerdings kam ein beträchtlicher Teil der Teilnehmer aus dem Norden und so kam die Idee auf, eines der beiden Treffen weiter nach Norden zu verlagern. Die Tannenburg hat sich als ein urgemütliches Quartier mit sehr freundlichen Wirtsleuten erwiesen, so dass die Herbsttreffen vorerst hier stattfinden werden. Die Burg liegt ziemlich zentral im Dreieck Stuttgart - Würzburg - Ulm. Das gemeinsame Musizieren wird von Jürgen Leo angeleitet, der die Konzertinaschulen Nr. 3 und Nr. 26 auf der Bücherseite verfasst hat. | The 26th Shetland Accordion and Fiddle Festival dates are Thursday 10th to Monday 14th October 2012. The annual festival mainly concentrates on music provided by Shetland's two most popular instruments - the accordion and the fiddle. The festival takes place over a hectic four-day period in early October. As with Shetland Folk Festival, musicians from all over the world perform at the event, although emphasis is on Scottish Dance music. Local musicians feature prominently in the event line-up. Tunes are swapped and musicians make new friends in the sessions that are an important part of the festival; younger musicians find them especially valuable in broadening their experience. Adopting the tried and trusted format of widespread community involvement, the event incorporates most areas of Shetland. It culminates in one of the biggest traditional dances to take place anywhere in the UK. Around a dozen different dance bands take it in turn to perform to 1,500 enthusiasts in the local sports centre in what amounts to a highly enjoyable "traditional rave". | Willie Keane was Doonbeg's best known personality and a great exponent of traditional dancing. He came to prominence with the Mullagh Set which won numerous competitions throughout Ireland. After frequent appearances on TV, he toured the U.S. with Clare's best-known traditional artists and regularly taught set dancing at the Willie Clancy Summer School. | A very special historical book “Artigiani del Suono” (the true story of the accordion) has been presented in various cities around the Castelfidardo region during the past month and we have been reporting about it already. But we think it important to show more about this book with its excellent graphic print quality by Tecnostampa, Italy and from the collection of pictures by accordion historian Beniamino Bugiolacchi from Castelfidardo. All the historic photographs are owned by Bugiolacchi who collected some 273 historic colour print pages over many years. A big part of the book is dedicated to Paolo Soprani, the first accordion manufacturer in Castelfidardo, who created the birth of a great new industry in the Marche region which were mainly farmers during this period. Quickly, the new manufacturing product has changed the small city, where almost all inhabitants from Castelfidardo and surroundings were in one way or the other involved in producing accordions. Collaborators for the realization of this book were: Roberto Carlorosi, Fabio Buschi, Studio Conti with Daniela Giovagnetti.
