 What are you doing for World Accordion Day to promote the accordion in your country? World Accordion day is on May 6th, which is the day the accordion was patented in 1829.World Accordion Day was started in 2009 by the CIA and has been very successful, generating a lot of positive publicity for the accordion. A key part of this event is the World Accordion Day website. Every association, group, orchestra, performer and teacher, is asked to actively support this event by encouraging national and local accordion activities to happen in their country on this day or the weekend either side of Accordion Day if that should be more convenient. Everyone can register their World Accordion Day activity on the website and send a report of their event after, for that website. No event is too big or too small. ALL accordion events celebrating World Accordion Day are welcome. This is a CIA promotion for the accordion in which every accordion enthusiast can participate and help bring our accordion world together as well as strongly promote the accordion. |

| The theme of the 2019 PIF Festival is “Once upon a time… the accordion”. This year, as well as encouraging composers to compose a work for Accordion & Orchestra, the event will include a new category: PIF2019 Draw your Accordion. The idea of PIF 2019 is to intrigue and attract new generations to the accordion and the whole family of reed instruments. The past generation lived the instrument as something "extremely" popular, a feeling comparatively unknown to the young people of today who do not know it at all. The idea of making a contest of "drawing" seemed perfect because it is aimed at the very young, or the generation of the future. The design must be made on the theme of the festival including at least one image of the accordion to invite the candidates to observe it, meet it and then keep it in memory. The competition aimed at young people up to 12 years (born in 2007 or later) of any country. There are no entry fees and the closing date for entries is 31st July, 2019. A panel of experts will analyse the entries and will select 25 to 50 drawings. At a later stage an online voting system will be prepared for the proclamation of the winning picture. The young winner will be awarded an “Accordion of Castelfidardo” prize and will be invited to present it during the "International Prize of the accordion" which will take place from 18th to 22nd September 2019 in Castelfidardo. | The 13th World Music Festival will be held in Innsbruck, Austria from May 30th to June 2nd, organised by the Deutscher Harmonika-Verband e.V. (DHV). Several thousand participants and visitors are thrilled every three years when the Deutscher Harmonika-Verband holds this festival. The event will include a competition for accordion orchestras, ensembles and bands plus solo categories for harmonica and diatonic accordions. In addition a number of concerts will be held as well as the “Evening of the Nations” event in the Congresshaus Innsbruck to mark this unique festival worldwide. Concert performers include last festival competition winners Akkordeonorchester Baltmannsweiler e. V. (pictured - conducted by Thomas Bauer), The Guardia Nueva Tango Orchestra (Finland) directed by Raimo Vertainen, duo Joe Kenney (marimba) and Felix Fritschi (accordion), 1. Kölner Akkordeonorchester 1935 e. V. (conducted by Hans-Günther Kölz and Matthias Henneck), Southern Cross Accordion Ensemble (formed especially for this event from Australia and New Zealand), and Fireworks of the Styrian Harmonica - young prize winners Michael Rettig, Alexander Pamer and Mattia Demetz.  Premio Musicale di Organetto "Alfredo Di Nicola": concerto e premiazione in piazza„Sabato 4 maggio, alle ore 21, in piazza San Rocco, ci saranno il concerto e la cerimonia di premiazione dei vincitori della seconda edizione del "Premio Musicale di Organetto Alfredo Di Nicola". Il premio è stato organizzato dall'istituzione scuola civica musicale "Città di San Giovanni Teatino" ed è patrocinato dall'amministrazione comunale. I candidati, di qualsiasi età e nazionalità, concorrono in 4 categorie: A (fino al 10 anni di età), B (fino a 14), C (fino a 18) e D (da 18 anni in poi). I concorrenti che raggiungono la valutazioni di 100/100 (1° premio assoluto), otterranno il premio di 100 euro, il diploma di merito e il diritto a partecipare alla seconda fase per l'assegnazione dei tre premi in denaro (300 euro al primo, 200 al secondo, 100 al terzo) e coppa. Il Comitato d'onore del premio è composto dal Sindaco di San Giovanni Teatino Luciano Marinucci, l'assessore alla cultura Simona Cinosi, la Presidente della Scuola Civica Musicale Carmelita Della Penna ed il direttore artistico maestro Giacinto Sergiacomo. Co-direttore artistico del Premio è il maestro Gianluca Emerico e Sara D'Angelo è la segretaria artistica.  V edizione 30-31 maggio e 1 giugno 2019 La Masterclass Internazionale di Bandoneόn è l’unico corso intensivo dedicato al bandoneόn che si svolge continuativamente sul territorio nazionale. Sede dell’iniziativa è la Sardegna dove ogni anno, in occasione dell'evento ARTango & Jazz Festival, durante l’ultima settimana del mese di agosto giungono bandoneonisti da tutta Europa per seguire le lezioni e i seminari dei grandi maestri di volta in volta ospitati. Al termine del corso i musicisti si esibiscono in un concerto finale frutto del lavoro svolto durante le giornate della masterclass. Dal 2015 ad oggi sono decine e decine i corsisti che da tutta Europa hanno raggiunto la Sardegna per partecipare alla masterclass che, di anno in anno offre la possibilità di frequentare lezioni individuali e di gruppo con i migliori maestri di bandoneόn del mondo. | Over the years Jazz Fest has received many honors, including being named the Festival of the Year four times by Pollstar magazine. The Wall Street Journal has said that Jazz Fest “showcases a wider, deeper lineup of essential American musical styles than any festival in the nation…” and which Life magazine has called “the country’s very best music festival.’’ ’And in reviewing the 2017 event, Jon Pareles said in the New York Times, “…whereas other major festivals tend to be brief invasions of their locales, Jazz Fest is an institution, inseparable from the city….” Inspired by the spirit of Mahalia Jackson and the Eureka Brass Band back in 1970, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival continues to celebrate the culture of Louisiana with the combined fervor of a gospel hymn and the joy of a jazz parade.  The 2019 Annual Chester Folk Festival will be held in the village of Kelsall, about 8 miles from Chester (UK) from May 24th to 27th. The event will include concerts, workshops, children’s events, dance displays, ceilidhs, sessions and a craft fair.Performers include the Askew Sisters (Hazel and Emily – picture right) who have become known as two of the foremost performers and interpreters of English folk music. Their live performances brim with the depth and connection not only of two sisters, but also of two musicians who have been immersed in folk music all their lives. Alongside this, both women are also skilled multi-instrumentalists and players of dance music, using fiddles, melodeons, concertina and cello. Concertina player, Steve Turner is known as a pioneer of highly sophisticated English concertina song accompaniments, stretching the boundaries of traditional forms, with one of the best voices in the business. | VENERDÌ, 03 MAGGIO 2019 15:54 GROTTAZZOLINA – Organetto e fisarmonica protagonisti del terzo Folk Festival, con direzione artistica Vincenzo Pasquali dell’associazione La Fenice, che si tiene sabato 4 e domenica 5 maggio a Grottazzolina, nell’ambito dei festeggiamenti in onore di papa S. Giovanni XXIII e della “sagra della porchetta, pizzette e frattillitti”, in Località Papa Giovanni. Manifestazione di musica folk che vede protagonisti eccellenti di questo genere musicale. Inizio sabato mattina, nella sala consiliare del Comune alle ore 10.30, con l’assemblea regionale Fitp (Federazione Italiana Tradizioni Popolari) delle Marche, con la presenza dei presidenti dei gruppi associati e del presidente nazionale Benito Ripoli. Nel pomeriggio, dalle 16.00, ben 6 gruppi folk si esibiranno in corteo e sotto il tendone per le esibizioni: i Gams, Gruppo Alfieri Musici Storici di Servigliano, i gruppi folkloristici “La Cocolla de Mojà” di Mogliano, “La Cucuma” di Amandola, “Li Matti de Montecò” di Montecosaro, “Ortensia” di Ortezzano, l’associazione folklorica “Città di Matelica”. Domenica, dalle 16.00, l’ottava edizione di “Organetti di Papa Giovanni”, concorso di organetto e fisarmonica diatonica, valevole per l’accesso alle finali mondiali 2019, organizzato quest’anno anche in collaborazione all’Amisad, (Associazione Musicale Italiana Strumenti ad Ancia Diatonici) con il presidente nazionale Giancarlo Ronconi che, insieme a Cameli, sarà tra i giurati del concorso. Alle ore 21 “Organetti Live Show”: spettacolo musicale e di danza.  The 2019 Harmonika Fest International Music Festival for Accordion will be held in Tivat, Montenegro from May 29th to 31st. The event was founded in 2010 in Cetinje, where it was held until 2014 and is organised by the NGO "Harmonika Montenegrina" from Podgorica, with project manager, Professor Predrag Jankovic. The primary goal of this project is the exchange of knowledge, practice and experience as well as acquaintance with domestic and international trends in contemporary concert and pedagogical practice for the accordion. | Il Barroccio presenta l'orchestra senza confini Eventi a Lecce „Esplorare il sound del nuovo Salento crocevia di popoli, tracciare il cerchio di una nuova comunità attraverso l'energia potente di ritmi e note meticci. Così nasce L'Orchestra Senza Confini / La Répétition, progetto musicale diretto da Claudio Prima e Giovanni Martella, che unisce musicisti italiani e africani. Burkina Faso, Mali, Senegal, Costa d’Avorio, dove la musica è lingua madre e pratica quotidiana della vita di comunità; è là che tende l’orecchio La Répétition, corre a raccogliere il codice del ritmo restituendolo a chi ha orecchie per ascoltare e mani che chiedono di battere il tempo attraversando epoche e coordinate geografiche. Lo riporta qui, nel cuore del Mediterraneo, che da sempre accoglie e rimescola come correnti e maree le culture e le tradizioni del Mondo. Una potente sezione ritmica di djembe, ngoma, dundun è il cuore pulsante delle performance, colorata da una altrettanto ampia sezione fiati, insieme a balafon, kamalè ‘ngony, oud e altri strumenti originali che raccontano il suono dell'Africa, ibridati con tamburello, organetto e altri suoni della tradizione salentina. Il Salento, da sempre terra di confine dove numerose culture si sono vicendevolmente fecondate, ritorna ad essere territorio di indagine alla scoperta dei tratti comuni fra i popoli che oggi lo abitano. Il momento musicale in Africa viene ancora oggi vissuto come un attimo collettivo, liberatorio e pubblico, quasi indispensabile nella vita giornaliera, una necessaria evasione dalla frenesia e l’esasperazione della quotidianità.L'Orchestra senza confini tenta di ricreare la stessa situazione, cerca di risvegliare l’amore per la musica intesa come dono dell’uomo all’uomo e permette a chiunque ne abbia la voglia di condividersi, mescolarsi e sperimentarsi nella dimensione della musica e della danza. Il progetto coordinato da Claudio Prima e Giovanni Martella, prevede la partecipazione di musicisti salentini e africani. L'orchestra è nata in seno alle West Africa free session chiamate La Repetitiòn, tenuti presso le Manifatture Knos di Lecce da Aprile a Dicembre 2017, totalmente libere e gratuite, nelle quali hanno potuto partecipare tutti coloro che volevano condividere la propria musica, in un percorso di ricerca centrato sulle radici della cultura West africana. Il repertorio dell'orchestra è composto da brani tradizionali del Senegal, del Burkina Faso, della Nigeria e del Mali, insieme a nuove composizioni nate nel progetto Tukrè che da 5 anni ricerca le commistioni fra musica Salentina e musica africana.
