 Video: Ein haile halve maone. Gruppespel. LF 2019The 30th Forde Folk Music Festival will be held in hotels, museums arts centres and outdoor stages in and around Førde, Norway from July 3rd to 7th. The main festival arena is the culture centre “Førdehuset” with four concert halls holding from 170 to 2500 seats. The theme of this year’s event is “2019: 30 years without borders!” This festival is one of the largest for traditional and world music in Scandinavia, presenting approximately 90 acts, 30 venues and 300 artists from all over the world with 25, 000 to 30,000 visitors each year. The festival programme will include a variety of concerts, workshops, exhibitions, children’s events and dance evenings. Accordion performers and groups include “Ein haile halve maone” (Norway - picture at top) who play traditional dance music mostly from their own region, but also some tunes from other parts of Norway; “Floating Sofa Quartet” (Denmark, Sweden and Finland) which includes Leija Lautamaja on Melodeon & Harmonium. Their repertoire is an exciting mixture of own compositions and traditional pieces from their respective countries. Other performers are “Kroke” (Poland) which includes accordionist Jerzy Bawol, who play their own improvisations of klezmer and ethnic music; Samurai Accordion (Italy, Finland and Ireland – picture below), a group of 4 accordionists who play a mix of trad, folk, liscio, Irish music, jazz and film scores; and the Sarah Savoy Trio (USA - picture left) who play a mix of Cajun, country and rock’n’roll. | The 2020 Edition of the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann is cancelled and will take place in 2021. In early March 2019 Mullingar was named as the host town for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2020. The event is the world’s largest annual celebration of Irish music, language, song and dance. It attracts in the region of 500,000 visitors to the host town every year. The announcement was received with excitement and jubilation by Comhaltas people and lovers of traditional culture in Co. Westmeath. The event is organised by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann and will be hosted in Mullingar in conjunction with the local Fleadh Executive Committee and Westmeath County Council. Joe Connaire, chairperson of Westmeath Comhaltas and of the Fleadh Committee, thanked the members of the Ard Comhairle for putting their trust in Mullingar to host this magnificent event, saying “We are deeply honoured and humbled by the ringing endorsement we have received from the Ard Comhairle of Comhaltas, both in the town of Mullingar and in the members of our voluntary bid committee who have put in a huge amount of work to get us to this day. | Musik aus allen Kontinenten beim Rudolstadt-Festival das jedes Jahr im July stattfindet, musste leider f. dieses Jahr ABGESAGT werden. Ein Festival, das Weltmusik, Dancefloor-Feeling und lauschige Hofkonzerte vereint, zwischen Folk-Tradition und verwegenen Experimenten segelt? Willkommen in Rudolstadt! Hier in der thüringischen Provinz ist für vier Tage im Juli die Welt zu Hause. Generell bietet das Festival einen Blick für den musikalischen Reichtum der unterschiedlichsten Kulturen, und Künstler*innen aus rund 40 Ländern auf fast 30 Bühnen in der ganzen Stadt. Die Geschichte des Festivals reicht bis 1955 zurück. Damals fand in Rudolstadt das „1. Fest des deutschen Volkstanzes“ statt. Es wurde zu einem DDR-Tanz- und Folklorefest, zu dem zahlreiche Gruppen aus Osteuropa anreisten. Nach der Wende wagte die Stadt dann mit einem ganz anderen, zeitgemäßen Konzept den Neustart. Dass sich diese Idee zu einem Weltmusik-Festival von internationalem Renommee entwickeln würde, konnte das Team damals nicht ahnen. Denn 1991 kamen -so jedenfalls wird es gern kolportiert- mehr Musikschaffende als -hörende. Bis letythin pilgerten täglich ca 25.000 Konzertfans zu Deutschlands größtem Festival für Roots, Folk und Weltmusik. Nicht zuletzt deshalb, weil das Festival-Team neben bekannte Namen und Szenestars bewusst auch widerspenstige oder völlig ungewohnte Töne stellt. | 44th edition of the Brosella Festival has been cancelled. The organizers write: Our team anticipated several scenarios and until the last moment we hoped to avoid this decision. However, in current times of uncertainty and following the measures announced by the government this week, this was our only option. Of course, we hope that the situation will have improved by July, but we can’t afford to take any risks. We want to wish courage to you, our loyal audience, our dedicated volunteers, our partners, as well as all those who support our festival directly or indirectly. The cancellation of the festival will be hard for our team and for all our volunteers, who commit themselves every year with inexhaustible energy in order to make our festival a special moment of the Brussels summer. Above all, this cancellation will inevitably have serious financial consequences not only for us, but also for all the artists who would have performed at the festival, our partners and suppliers. We are trying to find solutions to support them, especially our local artists for who our festival often represents their first big stage. We were so looking forward to present you our new programme, which – like every year – is made up of renowned national and international musicians as well as promising young and local talents. Gli appuntamenti saranno dunque distribuiti tra settembre e ottobre per salutare l’autunno a tutta musica (ma non solo). I responsabili di Folkest in accordo con la trentina di comuni del Friuli Venezia Giulia coinvolti nel programma – da Sauris a Duino passando per Tramonti di Sopra e Pulfero, Romans d’Isonzo, Travesio ma anche Udine, Gorizia e ovviamente Spilimbergo, la vicina Capodistria e Auronzo di Cadore-, hanno deciso di affrontare l’emergenza COVID -19 divenuta purtroppo mondiale, spostando il festival in altre date.  2020 Mission Folk Music Festival CancelledIn keeping with public health decisions, the organizers of the Mission Folk Music Festival regret to announce that the 2020 festival has been cancelled. It was slated to run from July 24 – 26. The festival invites everyone to follow their folk to next year’s festival, July 23-25, 2021 in beautiful Fraser Heritage Park in anticipation that it will be safe to gather together again then. As with our fellow festivals and events around the world during the COVID-19 crisis, our highest priority is to ensure the health and wellbeing of our valued artists, audience members, volunteers, suppliers, vendors and all who attend and participate in the festival. We know you will understand the need to make this heartrending decision, and we share your disappointment. The festival truly appreciates the longstanding support our community, funders and sponsors have shown over the last three+ decades, and looks forward to welcoming everyone back to the park next year. REFUNDS: For those of you who have purchased your ticket for MFMF 2020, refunds will automatically be processed after May 1, 2020. No further action is required. Muziekmozaïek vzw heeft dan ook de logische beslissing genomen om ons Folkfestival Gooikoorts dit jaar niet te laten plaastvinden en volop in te zetten op een nieuwe editie volgend jaar. De gezondheid en veiligheid van festivalgangers, van artiesten, van crew, van vrijwilligers is onze eerste prioriteit. Dit betekent nog niet dat het een zomer zonder Muziekmozaïek wordt. Met de hele ploeg zijn we bezig om een alternatief zomerprogramma uit te werken, waarbij we Folk en Jazz volop aanwezig laten zijn, en we onze muzikanten niet in de kou laten staan. Benjamin Macke (Belgium) and Lucas Thébaut (France) are consummate performers and teachers, and this week offers a rare opportunity to study with them in the UK. This will be an intensive week of skills-based learning focusing on your development as a musician, discovering new ways to interpret and play, and to make the music your own. Halsway Manor has deliberately chosen two musicians with a lot in common, but also with quite different backgrounds and repertoire so you’ll benefit from contrasting approaches in their playing and teaching. You need to be open to trying new things, and to be prepared to work hard – it will be intensive but also an enjoyable and rewarding week, with time to relax in the evenings and enjoy informal sessions. The group – limited to approximately 20 students – will be split in two by the tutors at the start of the course; you’ll spend roughly the same amount of time with each tutor. This will be done according to ability level; if you are coming with friends this may mean you will be working in different groups, but there’s plenty of informal time to meet, chat and play with others. Arrival is from noon on Monday, with lunch at 1pm, and we begin playing at 3pm! Who’s it For? This course is for advanced and advanced-intermediate level players of the DG melodeon (If you also have a box in GC, bring it as well). Please read the Halsway Melodeon Levels description carefully before you make a booking, this course is for levels 4 and 5.
