 What are you doing for World Accordion Day to promote the accordion in your country? World Accordion day is on May 6th, which is the day the accordion was patented in 1829.World Accordion Day was started in 2009 by the CIA and has been very successful, generating a lot of positive publicity for the accordion. A key part of this event is the World Accordion Day website. Every association, group, orchestra, performer and teacher, is asked to actively support this event by encouraging national and local accordion activities to happen in their country on this day or the weekend either side of Accordion Day if that should be more convenient. Everyone can register their World Accordion Day activity on the website and send a report of their event after, for that website. No event is too big or too small. ALL accordion events celebrating World Accordion Day are welcome. This is a CIA promotion for the accordion in which every accordion enthusiast can participate and help bring our accordion world together as well as strongly promote the accordion. |

| Grandissimo successo nella prima uscita internazionale di Francesco Scarselli pluripremiato organettista di Campochiaro che è stato ospite del Maestro Igor Zavadsky nelle due serate di concerti che si sono tenuti il 20 e 21 gennaio a Kiev Ucraina. I due artisti si sono conosciuti in occasione del concorso internazionale Accordeon Art Festival Italia Award che si è svolto a giugno 2019 a Roseto degli Abruzzi, il Maestro Zavadsky era uno dei sei giudici della giuria, Francesco concorrente della sezione Diatonic Accordion di cui risultò vincitore. | XXII Kokkola Winter Accordion Festival 9-16.2.2020 During the above Festival the newly renovated City Hall opens its doors to the sounds of Guardia Nueva with Free admission: Thurs. 13.2.2020 Kokkola City Hall Grand Opening Kokkola City Hall 4 p.m./Kauppatori 5 Guardia Nueva - a fine and stylish tango orchestra from Kokkola in Finland - has 14 musicians on stage conducted by Raimo Vertainen. As their name suggests, they started as an orchestra playing Astor Piazzolla and other Argentinean composers but these days they have developed into a concert orchestra with a wide repertoire of classic Finnish tangos (Unto Mononen, Toivo Kaerki etc.) with a Latin twist to it, standards of classic popular tunes from Benny Andersson to Augustin Lara throw in for good measure and naturally a huge Piazzolla, Carlos Gardel etc. repertoire with a touch of the Finnish tango passion. https://www.talviharmonikka.com/ |

| The next Scoil Cheoil will run from Wednesday the 19th to Sunday the 23rd of February, 2020. Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh is a 5 day Traditional Music School paying particular attention to the music, style and of the Corca Dhuibhne peninsula in Co. Kerry, Ireland on the Wild Atlantic Way. Held are about 20 classes in a wide range of instruments as well as sean-nós singing workshops and a sean-nós dance workshop. Over the 5 days there are concerts, sessions, singers’ nights, recitals, a pupils’ concert, guided walk, and all sorts of other events based on various aspects of our tradition. Concerts and classes will feature many musicians including Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich, Allan MacDonald, Cárthach MacCraith, Kevin Burke, Mick O’Brien, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, Fidelma O’Brien, Eithne Ní Chatháin, Christine Primrose, Desi Wilkinson, Jeremy Spencer, Muarice McKenna, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Gearóid Ó Duinnín and plenty more. Coming to Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh not only gives people the opportunity to get a taste of the local music and song, but it gives people a chance to experience the richness of the Irish language here in the heart of the Kerry Gaeltacht. People have the opportunity to attend a ‘ciorcal comhrá’ (conversation circle) where they can practice their cúpla focal, and for those whose ambitions lie further afield, we have classes in Gáidhlig (Scotts Gaelic). Musicians from all over Ireland are invitged to come to Scoil Cheoil to take part in teaching classes and performing at concerts and recitals. | 15 Febbraio ore 16-20 16 Febbraio ore 10-14 Scuola MEDInTERRA via Pozzino 6, Lequile (LE) L’organetto è uno strumento che evoca e porta con sé un patrimonio tradizionale straordinario. Negli ultimi anni tale patrimonio è stato riscoperto nei dettagli e riportato alla luce. La diffusione dell’organetto in questa fase di riscoperta ha fatto sì che il repertorio tradizionale incontrasse nuovi ambiti, si ampliasse fino a toccare nuovi orizzonti espressivi. Ed è così che per raggiungere tali orizzonti, le tecniche tradizionali sono state perfezionate e arricchite, rendendo l’organetto uno strumento versatile e completo. Sotto queste ipotesi, questo stage introduce le tecniche di base dello strumento e la loro applicazione a diversi generi, partendo dai limiti strutturali e cercando di superarli, anzi, di farne un’opportunità esecutiva ed espressiva. Si studieranno alcuni brani composti in forma di studio, che facilitano l’apprendimento delle tecniche di base e che ampliano le conoscenze di coloro che già hanno familiarità con lo strumento. E’ consigliato un modello in tonalità sol/do con un minimo di 8 bassi. La Scuola MEDInTERRA si occupa di ricerca, studio e divulgazione delle musiche di Tradizione Orale, siano esse di matrice colta (fanno riferimento ad un sistema musicale, es. musica classica indiana) o popolare (più immediate, rituali o di festa ma con un linguaggio specifico a seconda della provenienza). L’obiettivo è quello di codificare e rendere fruibile in maniera più immediata e con un percorso accademico, le musiche popolari, in continua evoluzione, integrando il sistema musicale eurocolto (basato prevalentemente sulla scrittura) e quello indiano (prevalentemente) basato sulla trasmissione orale del sapere. Claudio Prima è un organettista esperto di musiche ‘di confine’ e ha ideato e condotto in questi anni una serie di progetti incentrati sul dialogo fra musiche di provenienza diversa (Adria, BandAdriatica, Progetto Se.Me., Giovane Orchestra del Salento, La Répétition) con cui si esibisce in Europa, Africa, SudAmerica, USA. E’ assistente di Goran Bregovic e Giovanni Sollima per le edizioni 2012-2014 della Notte della Taranta. | The Cruinniú is a festival weekend consisting of Concertina classes, lectures, recitals, and sessions, like a mini Willie Clancy boutique festival. Welcomed age all groups and abilities. Concertina classes are on Saturday and Sunday mornings and host informal music sessions in the afternoons so that students can practise what they have learned in a friendly and open environment. Also hosted are supervised Junior session on the Saturday afternoon and an adult session to encourage and support students. The Concertina Cruinniú is an annual, community, non-commercial event organised by Oidhreacht an Chláir, held in Miltown Malbay every year since 2013. Die Steirische Harmonika gehört als Wahlinstrument zum Fächerkanon der Ausbildung am Hohner-Konservatorium. In diesem Tagesworkshop wollen wir die Möglichkeiten dieser Instrumentalausbildung vorstellen. Darüber hinaus wollen wir den Neueinsteigern auf der Steirischen einen Einblick in die Instrumentalpraxis geben und erste Spielanleitungen und Einsatzfelder vorstellen, denn sie ist zur Zeit eines der beliebtesten Harmonika-Instrumente. Der rasche Anfangserfolg motiviert und bereitet Lust auf mehr. Geht man allerdings etwas tiefer in die Materie, verlässt den sicheren Hafen der für die Harmonika eingerichteten „Stücke“, braucht man systematische Basics am Instrument. Gerade das freie „Dazuspielen“ und das Musizieren im Harmonikaduo ist eines der erfüllendsten Kapitel auf diesem Instrument. In einem ersten Schritt werden wir in diesem Workshop grundsätzliche harmonische und melodische Begleitmuster besprechen und ausprobieren. Bei Lust und Laune gehen wir in einem zweiten Schritt noch etwas weiter und verwenden unsere instinktiv bestens abgespeicherte Dur-Tonleiter-Skala, um auf der Basis von Latin-Rhythmen dem musikalischen Gefühl der improvisatorischen Freiheit etwas näher zu kommen. Während Manuel Lichtenauer an der „Rumpü“ (Steirische Harmonika) aus dem Volksmusikalischen Sektor kommt, sind die Wurzeln von Manuel Brunnsteiner, der neben vielen anderen Instrumenten hauptsächlich die Akustik- und E-Gitarre spielt, die Metal- und die Rockmusik. | The combination of concertina and accordion is no longer as novel as it might have been when Tony MacMahon and Noel Hill produced their landmark "Knocknagree" album, but the two young musicians featured here put their own stamp on it by playing music that is not just tuneful (the meaning of the Gaelic word "ceolmhar") but also unexpectedly sweet. Perhaps it has to do with Geraghty and Roche's specific instruments, their manner of playing, or the way they were recorded, but we are far from the exuberant roar of MacMahon and Hill. Which is not to say that there is anything dull about this album either. Geraghty and Roche, who met and developed their musical partnership while studying at University College Cork, have both tremendous technical skill and great taste. The duets on concertina and accordion are strikingly tight, and Geraghty proves to be a dazzling harp player as well. In addition, Geraghty shows much promise as a composer of tunes in traditional form--eight of her compositions are recorded here. Her "Planxty Dermott Grogan" and "Dalgan Lebians" reel, for instance, are both wonderful tunes in their respective vein. The contribution of the accompanists shouldn't be overlooked, as both Griffin and Markham show great skill as well in matching the feel of the music conveyed by the lead players. | Aoibheann fell in love with this air while first listening to the music of Cork-based band, Buille. The tune was composed by concertina player Niall Vallelly. The tune Miss Galvin’s was introduced to us by our guitar player Shane, him being a huge fan of Holly Geraghty and Jonathan Roche’s Album ‘Ceolmhar’. Aoibheann and Pamela Queally from Kilmaley, Co. Clare (Concertina and Fiddle): a true representative of West Clare music, launching their new album in 2019.
