 What are you doing for World Accordion Day to promote the accordion in your country? World Accordion day is on May 6th, which is the day the accordion was patented in 1829.World Accordion Day was started in 2009 by the CIA and has been very successful, generating a lot of positive publicity for the accordion. A key part of this event is the World Accordion Day website. Every association, group, orchestra, performer and teacher, is asked to actively support this event by encouraging national and local accordion activities to happen in their country on this day or the weekend either side of Accordion Day if that should be more convenient. Everyone can register their World Accordion Day activity on the website and send a report of their event after, for that website. No event is too big or too small. ALL accordion events celebrating World Accordion Day are welcome. This is a CIA promotion for the accordion in which every accordion enthusiast can participate and help bring our accordion world together as well as strongly promote the accordion. |

| 1999 fand die 1. Harmonika-WM in Außervillgraten/Osttirol statt und war gleich ein sehr großer Erfolg. Im Jahre 2003 wurde dieser Erfolg wiederholt. Danach ging der in der Zwischenzeit sehr etablierte Wettbewerb „auf Reisen“ und kehrt nun zum 10. Jubiläum wieder in das malerische Tal in Osttirol zurück! Die Osttiroler Gemeinde Außervillgraten hat sich um die Austragung beworben und sehr gerne den Zuschlag erhalten. Alle Formalitäten sind erledigt – und so steht diesem internationalen Harmonika-Ereignis nichts mehr im Wege. Gleichzeitig wird der nächste Österreichische Wettbewerb (Staatsmeisterschaft) für Steirische Harmonika und Volksmusikgruppen durchgeführt! !!!  The 18th annual International Accordion Festival, organised by Friedl Preisl, takes place at numerous venues in Vienna from February 25th to March 26th. Program/Schedule: 2017wien.pdf Note that the festival will close with the Italian diatonic button accordionist Riccardo Tesi and Bellaciao in Metropol. 25.2. bis 26.3. 2017 Schon könnte mensch Alice Cooper bemühen und laut vernehmlich „I´m Eighteen“ singen, um dem Umstand Rechnung zu tragen, dass das Akkordeonfestival 2017 seinen 18. Geburtstag feiern wird, und dieser wird oft und gerne mit Mündigkeit und Erwachsenheit assoziert. Doch kulturell mündig war das Akkordeonfestival von Anfang an, und gleichzeitig wäre es ohne eine gewisse, nicht allzu „erwachsene“ Unvernunft seitens Friedl Preisl, dem „Mister Akkordeonfestival“, womöglich nie entstanden oder so schön, wie es ist. Il sera animé par six musiciens professionnels autour d’un programme commun, adapté selon les niveaux des participants, répartis en trois groupes tout au long de la semaine : groupe 1 : initiation, découverte – groupe 2 : approfondissement – groupe 3 : master-class. À raison de deux animateurs par niveau, tous les stagiaires seront encadrés en nombre limité pour être suivis au mieux et trouver des réponses à leurs attentes et à leurs besoins. Un document de travail synthétique sera remis aux participants dès le début de la semaine. | Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh is a 5 day Traditional Music School paying particular attention to the music, style and of the Corca Dhuibhne peninsula in Co. Kerry, Ireland on the Wild Atlantic Way. The next Scoil Cheoil will run from Wednesday the 17th to Sunday the 21st of February, 2016. 25 classes in a wide range of instruments as well as sean-nós singing workshops and a sean-nós dance workshop. Over the 5 days there are concerts, sessions, singers’ nights, recitals, a pupils’ concert, guided walk, and all sorts of other events based on various aspects of local tradition. Concerts will feature performances from many musicians including Paddy & Kevin Glacken, Dermot Byrne, Florian Blanke, Róisín Ní Mhainín, Aoife & Deirdre Granville, Noel Battle & Róisín Broderick, Paul McGrattan and Clare Egan. Coming to Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh not only gives people the opportunity to get a taste of the local music and song, but it gives people a chance to experience the richness of the Irish language here in the heart of the Kerry Gaeltacht. People have the opportunity to attend a ‘ciorcal comhrá’ (conversation circle) where they can practice their cúpla focal, and for those whose ambitions lie further afield, there are classes in Gáidhlig (Scotts Gaelic). Musicians from all over Ireland are invited to come to Scoil Cheoil to take part in teaching classes and performing at concerts and recitals.   There will be a very special event at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) in February: a concert 'The Art of Tango' featuring bandoneon virtuoso Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi in concert with Academy accordion students and the RAM string quintet. The concert takes place in the David Josefowitz Recital Hall on Thursday February 2nd at 7.30 pm. The day before, Wednesday February 1st, 10am, Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi, Professor of accordion at the Conservatorio Torrefranca, Vibo Valentina, Italy, gives a master class in the David Josefowitz Recital Hall. |

 This will be the 11th year for The Big Squeeze Accordion Contest, an event that is excited to find and showcase Texas accordion talent! It is a Texas statewide contest where accordion players ages 21 and under will showcase their performance abilities in three main accordion genre categories: Polka, Cajun / Zydeco and Conjunto. The event strives to represent the state's geographic and cultural diversity. The Polka genre will include German, Czech, and Polish traditions. Cajun / Zydeco will include Creole, Cajun and Zydeco musical traditions. Conjunto will include Norteño and Tejano. Since 2007, 182 young musicians from more than 32 Texas towns and cities have participated. | Suffolk Folk Promoting Traditional Music, song and dance in East Anglia Come and Join the Band 7.30pm every 2nd Thursday of the month. This Workshop is held at The Ark, King William Street, Needham Market IP6 8AE. Suffolk has a long history of traditional music and Suffolk Folk aim to keep it that way! We run a monthly workshop aimed at bridging the gap between playing at home and in public sessions. It also gives participants the experience of playing together as a band. The workshops are designed to attract all age groups from youngsters upwards and all acoustic instruments able to play in the keys of D and G. The music workshops are designed to help people become more confident playing traditional music socially, and are aimed at Beginners and Improvers. The tunes are played at a pace slow enough so that everyone can join in. They also cover playing as a band, helping with arrangements, harmonies/counter melodies and other dark mysteries.  Written by one of tango music’s most active contemporary orchestra leaders and composers, this book presents for the first time a comprehensive anatomy of the theory and techniques of tango arranging.Included are traditional accompaniment patterns; rules for voicing of parts; typical tango articulations and performance techniques for all instruments used in tango; and strategies for melodic and rhythmic permutation. The book prepares the tango composer or arranger with a solid grounding in traditional tango harmony and orchestration, illustrating the common practices of arrangers of the major 20th century tango orchestras. More than 400 musical examples represent a wide range of composers and arrangers, such as Canaro, De Caro, Di Sarli, Federico, Firpo, Fresedo, Gardel, Gobbi, Laurenz, Piazzolla, Plaza, Pontier, Pugliese, Salgan, Troilo, and others. Excerpts of scores for full orchestra, and a complete 12-instrument orchestration of a tango are provided for analysis. Julian Peralta is the central catalyst behind the new orquesta tipica movement in Buenos Aires. He has directed dozens of contemporary tango orchestras, including Orquesta Típica Fernandez Fierro, Astillero, and Orquesta Típica Julián Peralta. He teaches at the Escuela de Musica Popular de Avellaneda, Escuela de Tango Orlando Goñi, and the Tanguero Workshop. In The Tango Orchestra: Fundamental Concepts and Techniques, Peralta shares the knowledge he has gained from more than 20 years of studying the literature of the tango orchestra. It is a “must read” for anyone who intends to study tango seriously. About the Author Julián Peralta Pianist and composer Julián Peralta is an iconic figure of contemporary tango. In addition to his musical activity, which includes having created and directed the Orquesta Típica Fernández Fierro, he is also a successful manager and entrepreneur responsible for projects such as La Maquina Tanguera, CAFF and the Teatro Orlando Goñi, among others. A passionate pedagogue, he lectures on tango musical techniques at the Escuela de Música Popular de Avellaneda and La Escuela Orlando Goñi.
